My favorite MLB DFS plays for today with statistical reasoning.

We have an eight game slate underway today at 6:40 E.T. Weather is good today and no games will be postponed. In this article I will cover the best Pitchers, Batters, and Stacks for both Draftkings and Fanduel. Some of the players we be repeated across both platforms, so I recommend simply reading the platform you are going to be playing on.

Draftkings

Pitchers

Tarik Skubal - 10.5k (DET @ TEX)

Skubal is the best pitcher on the day in almost every catigory. He has a WHIP of 0.82 and a K rate of 31.3%. While Texas seems like a hard matchup, they are actually 24th in OPS vs lefties, and 11th in K rate. Skubal is projected for 7 strikeouts, the highest on the slate tied with Zach Wheeler, but Wheeler has to face the Brewers offense that is second best in the league. Skubal should be the highest priced pitcher on the slate and he is well worth paying up for.

Tylor Megill - 7.2k (NYM @ WSH)

Megill has not been a great pitcher in his career, but this year in his first three starts he is pitching great. He has only given up three earned runs across 16 innings while striking out 20 batters. In his last game he went seven innings vs the Dodgers and allowed zero runs while striking out 9. Megill now faces the 8th worst offense in the major league, so it is a good spot for him to add on to his great start to the season.

Batters

Joc Pederson vs Spencer Howard (ARI vs SFG) - 4.2k

Joc Pederson is one of the only Diamondbacks who is an above average hitter vs righties, this list is Joc, Christian Walker, and Gabriel Moreno. Joc is the best on the team vs righties with a .915 OPS and 161 wRC+. I talk about Spencer Howard more in the stacks section, but I expect the Diamondbacks to hit the ball well today, and that will be led by Joc Pederson.

Donovan Solano vs Tyler Anderson (SDP @ LAA) - 2.8k

Solano has been incredible for the Padres this season, he was called up from his minor league deal and he is now batting .404 with a 1.004 OPS. He is even better vs lefties also with a .419 vs lefties with a 1.051 OPS. Solano continues to be underpriced in DFS and he is now on a six game hitting streak. Tyler Anderson has the worst SIERA on the slate and the Padres could get to him. Solano is also 1 for 2 vs Anderson with an RBI double.

Stacks

Colorado Rockies vs Andrew Abbott

The Rockies are a much better team at home understandably, and they do much better vs lefties. Today they get both of those, facing LHP Andrew Abbott in Coors field. Abbot is a fly ball pitcher, and that does not work too well at Coors field. Last week the Rockies faced fly ball pitcher Triston McKenzie at home and got him for two home runs and four runs in five innings. But Abbott is even worse of a pitcher and is a lefty. The Rockies are hitting .288 with an .828 OPS, which would rank them first in the league. The Rockies also aren't getting as much ownership as they deserve, and Abbott is even 19% ownership on Draftkings, making me like this spot even more.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Spencer Howard

Spencer Howard is a minor league pitcher with a 5.9 ERA in triple a this season. The Giants were forced to call him up because of injuries to their pitchers, and he pitched a good first game allowing no runs and five hits through four innings. But this was likely a fluke, in Howards entire MLB career he has pitched over 100 innings with a 6.96 ERA. The Diamondbacks have struggled vs righties but this is a pitching matchup they need to take advantage of. They have one of the highest run totals on the slate and are also going under owned.

Fanduel

Pitchers

Tarik Skubal - 10.4k (DET @ TEX)

Skubal is the best pitcher on the day in almost every catigory. He has a WHIP of 0.82 and a K rate of 31.3%. While Texas seems like a hard matchup, they are actually 24th in OPS vs lefties, and 11th in K rate. Skubal is projected for 7 strikeouts, the highest on the slate tied with Zach Wheeler, but Wheeler has to face the Brewers offense that is second best in the league. Skubal should be the highest priced pitcher on the slate and he is well worth paying up for.

Kevin Guasman - 8.2k (TOR vs BAL)

Gausman's K rate is down this season to just 24%, but he has still been a very good pitcher. He has a SIERA of 3.47 and a xFIP- of 81, tied with Zach Wheeler. Baltimore is a tough offense, ranking 8th in OPS to righties but Guasman is good enough to overcome a tough matchup. Additionally, the top of the lineup for the Orioles in Henderson, Rutschman, and O'Hearn are a combined 10 for 39, batting .256.

Batters

Joc Pederson vs Spencer Howard (ARI vs SFG) - 2.9k

Joc Pederson is one of the only Diamondbacks who is an above average hitter vs righties, this list is Joc, Christian Walker, and Gabriel Moreno. Joc is the best on the team vs righties with a .915 OPS and 161 wRC+. I talk about Spencer Howard more in the stacks section, but I expect the Diamondbacks to hit the ball well today, and that will be led by Joc Pederson at an insulting price of 2.9k.

Donovan Solano vs Tyler Anderson (SDP @ LAA) - 2.3k

Solano has been incredible for the Padres this season, he was called up from his minor league deal and he is now batting .404 with a 1.004 OPS. He is even better vs lefties also with a .419 vs lefties with a 1.051 OPS. Solano continues to be underpriced in DFS and he is now on a six game hitting streak. Tyler Anderson has the worst SIERA on the slate and the Padres could get to him. Solano is also 1 for 2 vs Anderson with an RBI double.
